ONE TO ONE YOUTH BEFRIENDING was established in 1986.
It originated from the need to befriend/mentor young people in
the Swanley area of Kent.
Under the governance of CVS it grew
in size, expanding geographically into Dartford, Gravesend
Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
The number of young people using the service increased, together
with the number of volunteers, who give up so much of their time
to support the Organisation and without their help, the organisation
could not function.
In 1996 One to One Youth Befriending became an independent Organisation.
Its delivery of a professional Befriending service for young
people became increasingly known and valued and working in partnership
increased. Areas of specialism developed – Young Carers,
Young asylum seekers, Sherwood Project, music mentoring, Zero
tolerance…
2004 saw 121 Youth Befriending becoming a Gold Star Project,
awarded by the Home Office and
2005 accredited with the Approved Provider Standard for a further
3 years.
The ethos of 121 YOUTH BEFRIENDING is to challenge disadvantage
and recognise the potential in every young person. We always
remember that our young people are at the centre of our professional
work and we continue to provide a service of priceless riches
- care, empathy, fun, support; an opportunity to talk and be
listened to, an opportunity to play, an opportunity to learn
life skills.
Given the right environment, the support and time to nurture
these needs, 121 YOUTH BEFRIENDING continues to fulfil
its commitment to the Young people of West Kent.
Your continued support will help to make their childhood
a time that they want to remember
